My main reason
for creating personal Web pages from the very beginning (since late summer
1996) has been the process itself. The creativity I use in that process
is very satisfying to me, such as in deciding what pages to initiate, in
designing the look of the pages, in determining how the internal navigation
of the pages and the site might work most effectively, and in incorporating
visual and technical elements without unduly slowing down loading times.
Also, the tinkering process of finding and putting the pieces together
I find to be absorbing and tranquilizing, and the instant gratification
of seeing the end product is a nice bonus.
As a matter of philosophy,
I very much appreciate the free-flowing and mostly benign anarchy that
is (or at least used to be?) the Internet, which (either way) allows me
this kind of expression in the first place.
My site has always been strictly personal,
that is, not created to serve my professional side (though it does accomplish
that too). The content of the pages grows from my various interests, both
professional and personal.
The site is still relatively low-tech
(e.g., FrontPage), in part because I in fact like the various pages to look
different. I could be more high tech, have been, but I don't want to...
I don't claim expertise
or educational purpose for my site, though if someone finds some part of
it useful for their own purposes, that's another bonus. I note, however,
that my photographs are copyrighted, and may not be used by anyone else for any
purpose whatsoever unless I specifically OK that use.
Here are my professional
resume and my personal home
